OUR SECURITY STAFF
RYAN Security places staff recruitment very high on our priority list, we understand that unlike many other industries our staff are essentially our product, they are not only the face of our company but they represent the clients that we work with, so recruiting the right caliber of staff is essential in the ongoing success of our business and ensuring that our brand remains strong.
All staff are required to complete the ‘Ministry of Justice Priv/F2’ criminal convictions form, enabling us to complete full background checks on all staff ensuring that they are suitable for our brand and yours.
Successful applicants complete onsite work experience under experienced staff members and are closely monitored in the first 3 months of service before being placed on more permanent employment contracts and accessing further training in our ‘NZQA National Certificate in Security Level 2’ qualifications.
Key aspects covered during the initial employment period include:
- Intoxication identification and management
- ID (approved forms of ID)
- Sale of Liquor Act (including penalties and consequences)
- Company ‘Code-of-conduct’ (including uniform, personal presentation etc)
- Control and Restraint (Police approved, their safety and the publics)
- Communication Skills
NZQA National Certificate in Security
RYAN Security and Consulting has implemented a industry leading training model which involves staff completing the ‘National Certificate in Security Level 2’ qualifications, on top of this staff are also required to complete subjects of the Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications to meet the RYAN Security standards. Following this qualification staff have access to additional training strands in specific areas of the security industry i.e. Event Security, Site Security, Mobile Security etc.
RYAN Security has employed an NZQA Approved trainer and obtained an agreement with the Ministry of Education to access their Virtual Training Network which will allow us to train staff nationally from the Wellington training base allowing face-to-face contact at any time between staff and trainers anywhere in the country.
Summary of the skills represented by the Level 2 qualification:
- basic knowledge of the security industry and the law as it applies to the industry;
- knowledge of basic security practices;
- communication skills, team work, and customer service;
- basic management of stress, anger, and alcohol and drug use;
- health and safety basics, including fitness, first aid, and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation;
- basic skills needed to deal with emergencies, and fire suppression;
- knowledge of the security industry, employment requirements, and the professional standards expected of the industry and those who work in it.
Additional elements (at level 3/4 papers) include:
- Respond to emergency and critical situations as a security officer
- Demonstrate knowledge of law relevant to security officers and interaction with the legal system
- Demonstrate knowledge of professional standards, communication skills, use of electronic equipment
- Demonstrate lawful use of force in a security context
- Manage security incidents, breaches etc as a security officer
- Manage First Aid in Emergency Situations, first aid level 2
